Every so often we look for guidance on our journeys. Since I was 16 I have been using the Celtic Runes as a meditation and form of introspection when all else fails.

If you don’t already have a set, I strongly recommend getting some. During the early stages of the New Age movement the definitive book on these The Book Of Runes was written by Ralph Blum in 1982.

When I am in that dark place where I can’t see two feet in front of me and really need some guidance, I draw a rune and read it’s meaning from The Book Of Runes . Invariably the answer is profound and gives me a bit of direction.

Occasionally, I get a bit stubborn and refuse to look at the advice being offered to me.

The other night I was in a dismal mood. Everything that could have gone wrong that day, did go wrong. I was spent in all ways. I sat on my bed wondering if I just layed there if it was possible for anything else to go wrong on that day. I pulled a rune. It was Ehwaz the rune of Movement. ” Wait a second, that’s not what I wanted! ” I thought to myself. I wanted something else. I shuffled the deck and I moved to draw another rune. Same thing again! What are the chances of that. Then the lights went out. “Damn! must be the fuse box.” I said. I went to check but the fuses were ok. “Great, it’s a bulb!” I yelled sarcastically. I went to remove the bulb and the lights in the entire loft flickered.

Something strange was up। I tossed the bulb and put in a new one. I sat on the bed contemplating how strange that moment was. Then I remembered the bulb looked strange. I grabbed it out of the trash. Upon examination I noticed the weirdest thing. On the inside of the bulb was the exact symbol for the rune of movement! This symbol was burned into the glass from the inside and was unmistakably the exact same symbol on the rune I kept pulling. OK, at this stage I carefully read the page in the book on that rune. I thanked the great spirit. I then gently put them away for the week. I may be stubborn. However, when a message that clear comes my way, I gotta listen. I didn’t pull any more runes that week. In any event I was out of bulbs .
