Art Of The Razor * Buenos Airies,Argentina

The author of my Lonely Planet travel guide would be mad at me. I should have been going to museums and taking part in the typical tourist fare. The thing is I just couldn’t bring myself to walk into another stuffy museum and be surrounded by tourists touting how wonderful the “art” and “culture” is in this country.
So instead I opted to wander off aimlessly into some lesser known neighborhoods .

The 1890’s to the mid 1940’s were the golden age for barbershops. Back in the day, hanging out at the old barbershop on the corner was a regular habit. You would stop in for a haircut, shave, advice and coffee or a drink.

This barbershop which is nestled in a quiet working class neighborhood of Buenos Aries is extraordinary.

I always wondered what it might have been like to experience this phenomena but never thought I would get a chance.

That is until today.

There was a cool looking guy with a cape and 1953 Ford Fairlane parked outside. He invited me in. How could I go wrong ?

Ahhhh… now this is what I am talking about….

As the hot lather hit my face and head, I felt the cares of the day simply melt away.
What an extraordinary experience. It took nearly 3 hours and 3 cups of coffee and a bit of old whiskey to wash down the memories but at the end of the day I felt like a new man.
Viola…
