ACCLAIMED AZTEC MEDICINE MAN TO MEET WITH LA GANG MEMBERS

May 31st, 2010 Los Angeles CA– Internationally renowned Aztec Medicine Man and 2012 speaker Mitklan Ehekateotl Kuauhtlinxan (Ehe) will meet with Latino Gang Members and other LA area at risk youth on June 4th at the Chucho’s Justice Center. The incentive of the meeting is to re-introduce original Aztec traditions to current Latino Gang Members in hopes that these traditions will play a stronger role in the decisions that they make on a daily basis.

Joining Ehe is author and filmmaker Shaahin Cheyene. Cheyene spent 5 years shadowing Ehe and producing the award-winning documentary Serpent And The Sun: Tales Of An Aztec Apprentice in hopes that it will affect positive change in troubled communities. The evening will include a special screening of the film and a subsequent Q&A with Ehekateotl and Shaahin Cheyene.

For over 468 years Ehe’s people have been in hiding. Their tradition has been passed down from generation to generation and Ehe is the last among them. As the current carrier of the word of the Tetzkatlipoka Tradition, Ehe is a practitioner and teacher of the ancient and sacred Aztec healing system of Wewepahtli or ‘The Greatest Medicine’. The Aztec people believe that by adhering to the principles of Wewepahtli they can achieve a perfect balance in their lives and in their health.
About Shaahin Cheyene:
Shaahin Cheyene is an Iranian born author, filmmaker, lecturer and herbalist based in Los Angeles, California . For over 15 years, Cheyene has traveled the world working with healers and medicine men and women in an effort to document and preserve their medicines and traditions. He was the first to discover a commercial source for the shamanic Mexican plant Salvia Divnorum and to import it on a commercial scale. Working with several major pharmaceutical companies, he continues to bring the technologies and benefits of plant medicines to the mainstream. Now a full time writer and filmmaker, Cheyene has recently completed the award winning documentary film Serpent And The Sun : Tales Of An Aztec Apprentice and written the companion book Darkness: The Power Of Illumination.
